Diesel Technician

Our national client, a market leader, committed to providing their customers with quality new or used products is looking to employ an experienced Diesel Technician, to be actively involved in servicing and maintenance of used equipment and machines and provide service excellence to all internal and external customers.

Main purpose of the position:

To actively be involved in the servicing and maintenance of Long Term Rental, Short term hire units, used equipment and customer machines to the highest workmanship and quality and provide service excellence to all internal and external customers. To ensure that all new and used equipment is controlled and stored to the highest standard, and that electric forklifts and warehouse equipment batteries are regularly charged and in good condition.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain customer and other equipment to the standards required by Management in the Service Workshop.

  • Adhere to the Company Standing Instructions for Technicians.

  • Ensure that all paperwork relative to the above duties is correctly filled in and timeously returned and that no work is carried out without the outwork order first being signed and authorised by your manager.

  • Adhere strictly to working hours as laid down by Management and ensure that correct procedures are adhered to with regard to charging of working hours to jobs and on timesheets.

  • Do quotations on forklift repairs and re-builds

  • Do repairs and re-builds to machines within time frame set out

  • Ensure is kept clean and housekeeping is up to date

  • Carry out job / work related instructions from your manager within the time frame given.

  • On the job training of apprentices

  • Implement and maintain rotational charging of the traction batteries.

  • Executing preventative and periodic repairs, inspections, maintenance and vehicle servicing on all cranes, trailers, trucks and other equipment on location or in workshop Sites, by using amongst other diagnostic devices and tests.

  • Assembling and dissembling of parts.

  • Performing of operational checks after repairs/ maintenance.

  • Daily reports of executed work and foreseen major repairs and repetitive problems, according to company standards and instructions.

  • Striving for continuous improvement towards own performance and that of team during project.

  • Being an Ambassador of the company towards current and future clients, suppliers, other third parties and internally.


Skills and Experience:

  • Used to working to and achieving deadlines on a monthly basis

  • Root-cause fault diagnosis of electric faults and the corresponding cost effective repairs

  • Formal Technical qualification as a Diesel Mechanic / Forklift Mechanical or Electrical equivalent.
