Maintenance Technician

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all Engine Plant mechanical installations and systems are maintained to standards and requirements in order to ensure safe plant operation by means of structured maintenance systems such as PM’s, check lists, weekend work job cards etc.
  • Recommending, updating and modifying mechanical installations to the latest engineering technology in order to stay in line with the latest technologies available on the market by constantly dealing with external suppliers and similar industrial companies.
  • Maintaining of mechanical equipment to meet the required health & safety standards to ensure a safe work environment for all employees, by ensuring equipment is safe to operate, all safety guards, safety locks etc. are in place and in working order.
  • Conducting routine plant inspections in order to monitor facility operation, performance and condition and by reporting faults or deviations on preventative maintenance schedules or check lists
  • Making the necessary adjustments to facilities such as conveyor speeds, fan speeds, system pressures, tank levels etc. by means of PLC settings, controller adjustments and thereafter verify that the adjustments produced the required outcome by measuring the output performance/parameters. In order to ensure optimum availability of equipment and safe to operate.
  • Conduct risk assessments before conducting unplanned maintenance to ensure the safety of yourself and fellow employees in the area in order to prevent any accidents / injuries.
  • Maintaining all your allocated tools & equipment by regularly cleaning and constantly lubricating moving parts to ensure that you will be able to safely perform effective maintenance on a daily basis
Education and Experience

  • NN Diploma, N Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or any relevant Engineering qualification
  • Certified training (Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Pumps, conveyors, lifting equipment etc.)
  • Qualified Mechanical Artisan
  • Have minimum 3 years’ postgraduate experience in a maintenance environment. 
Skills, Attributes & Other requirements

 

ESSENTIAL:

  • Knowledge of extensive operation of pneumatics & hydraulics, conveyor systems, AC & DC motors / equipment and Kuka & Durr robots (Advantage Industrial PCs / HMI’s (installation, repairs and software packages), VSD’s (SEW & Danfoss), Siemens switch gear and PILZ safety devices). Grob facilities (advantages)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and electronically at various levels (operator to management level)
  • Computer literacy
  • Sound technical knowledge with respect to mechanical installations and problem solving
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Systematical approach while conducting faultfinding.
