Chief Programmer / Hemis Officer

DEPARTMENT OF INSTITUTIONAL PLANNING
CHIEF PROGRAMMER / HEMIS OFFICER (ONE POST)
PEROMNES POST LEVEL 6

RESPONSIBILITIES: :
The incumbent will be responsible for:
• Supporting the Management Information Division in developing and maintaining its existing business intelligence (BI) databases, data warehouses and scheduled reporting procedures;
• Designing and developing BI Database tables and fields;
• Monitoring National Education policies to identify possible subsidy implications for the University;
• Creating Student HEMIS files and submissions to the DHET;
• Calculating new FTE values and updating the student production database with these FTE values;
• Programming SQL application components based on general design specifications;
• Loading data from various sources (Spread sheets) and store data into the Database tables.
MINIMUM

REQUIREMENTS:
• An IT related tertiary qualification (diploma or higher);
• Four years’ proven experience in the development, deployment and maintenance of data warehousing / BI systems;
• Four or more years’ experience in MS SQL Server, SQL query development, and T_SQL or PL/SQL script development;
• One years’ HEMIS experience.
OR
• Matric;
• Seven years’ proven experience in the development, deployment and maintenance of data warehousing / BI systems;
• Six or more years’ experience in MS SQL Server, SQL query development, and T_SQL or PL/SQL script development;
• One years’ HEMIS experience.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
• Knowledge of the DHET’s HEMIS prescriptions;
• Leadership and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to make decisions and to prioritise;
• Attention to detail;
• Experience working with a team.
