A Recruiter (Fixed term contract ending November 2021) vacancy is available at our Client Wits Health Consortium\'s Nelson Mandela Academic Clinical Research Unit (NeMACRU) in Mthatha - Eastern Cape.

Background


Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof. 


The Nelson Mandela Academic Clinical Research Unit (NeMACRU) is a research entity of the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital established by the hospital in association with the Walter Sisulu University, Faculty of Health Sciences.  NeMACRU is located in one of the poorest districts (OR Tambo District Municipality) of the Eastern Cape Province. The existence of this site will not only promote excellent research output in the area but will support local health facilities with health education on vaccines and HIV Prevention.


Main purpose of the job



  • To educate and recruit eligible and willing participants for clinical studies.

  • Mthatha


Key performance areas



  • Build trust between the community and the study teams.

  • Recruit eligible participants.

  • Obtain verbal consent before conducting screening interviews.

  • Inform willing participants that participation in the study is voluntary.

  • Conduct screening interviews to consenting participant to determine eligibility into study.

  • Obtain informed consent from participants for screening and enrolment.

  • Train participants in terms of the study and anticipated outcomes.

  • Administer study questionnaires.

  • Conduct home visits and report to the clinic team.

  • Address relevant concerns and misconceptions about the study.

  • Receive queries from participants and address or refer queries accordingly.

  • Preparing daily, weekly and monthly recruitment reports.

  • Filing and archiving of patient information and other study documentation.


Required minimum education and training



  • Relevant Post Matric Certificate, Diploma or degree.


Required minimum work experience



  • One to two years’ experience. Clinical trial environment experience would be an advantage.


Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities



  • Good communication.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills.

  • Must be detail orientated.

  • Must be able to work as a member of a team.

  • Apply consistent adherence to research and GCP practices.

  • The ability to work in a complex and demanding environment.

  • Established links with key stakeholders in high risk populations.
