Technical Manager

Leading manufacturer and supplier to the mining industry seeks Technical Manager


  • Matric.

  • N6 Mechanical Engineering or Higher Qualification essential


  • Previous experience in a heavy engineering manufacturing / production  environment essential including experience on hydraulics.

  • Experience in quality control ensuring products are produced according to specification and safety measures adhered to.

  • Experience drawing up specifications for new products including material requirements, bill of materials, engineering drawings for machining purposes, performance specifications and recommendations for preferred suppliers.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.


  • Head up the Health and Safety team as guided by an external consultant

  • Maintaining company quality standard by approving incoming material and components, in-process production, finished products and maintaining records of the results and ensure product compliance to legal standards and customer expectations.

  • Assist with production planning and head the technical purchasing and planning department.

  • Ensure existing products comply with the specifications.

  • Investigate and propose improvements to current products.

  • Assist R&D department with new product development.

  • Produce a costing analysis of new products.

  • Update costing analysis of existing products as required.

  • Investigate and implement cost saving strategies in terms of materials and labour.

  • Produce technical product reports for customers.

  • Attend to any technical queries on the shop floor and machine shop.

  • Assist sales team with any technical queries.

  • Conduct product training.

  • Investigate and produce reports for any warranty claims.

  • Ensure system bill of materials for all products are accurate and update as required.

  • Source and approve new suppliers.

  • Produce planning schedules based on product forecasts.

  • Ensure buying department places orders based on planning.

  • Review purchase orders for best price and quality.

  • Ensure minimum stock levels are maintained.

  • Produce weekly production priority list for machine shop.

  • Assist with stock cycle counts and investigate discrepancies.

  • Assist with periodic stock counts and investigate discrepancies.
