Hr Specialist

Duties:

Recruitment and selection:



  • Prepare and type notices of vacancies for notice boards.

  • Liaise with recruitment consultancies regarding job specs for external recruitment.

  • Interview short listed candidates.

  • Arrange and attend interview with line management for short listed candidates.

  • Ensure compliance with company’s employment equity plan.

  • Ensure compliance with turnover times to fill vacancies.

  • Arrange for competency assessments to be conducted on short listed candidates for hourly and salaried vacancies.


HR Admin:



  • Plant HR Report - Compile and submit weekly plant HR reports to Human Resources Manager.

  • Absenteeism - Compile absenteeism statistics and ensure line management action. Advise line management on the actions to be taken. Keep an up-to-date record of all absence in the plant.


Organizational Development:



  • Assist Human Resources Manager with various projects including but not limited to:

    - Employee assistance program

    - Employee recognition program



Employment Equity:



  • Prepare statistics for recruitment against the Employment Equity Plan.

  • Attend the Employment Equity Committee meetings and provide updates.


Industrial Relations:



  • Assist Line Management by providing Industrial Relations advice on disciplinary matters, appeals, grievances and

    absenteeism control.


  • Set up disciplinary hearings where necessary. Attend to hearings at the DRC at Conciliation and Arbitration level. Attend weekly and monthly management shop steward meetings with the Human Resources Manager.

  • Assist with negotiated collective agreements.

  • Assist with maintaining relations with union at plant level. Assist with conducting all labour relations activities.

  • Ensure that company complies with relative labour legislation. Ensure adherence to collective agreements all level of supervision in the company.

  • Measure all decisions against rights, duties and values to ensure sound labour relations.

  • Assist with the formal communication to the trade union. Deal with all disciplinary hearings and advise Line and Human Resources Manager.

  • Monitor grievances and advise Line Management on action steps.


Training and Development:



  • Provide refresher training to salaried employees for Individual Development Planning and Performance Alignment.

  • Provide Induction training to all new employees.


Employee Assistance Program:



  • Make proposals to Management on suitable Employee recognition program.

  • Provide a rehabilitative service to employees with psychosocial problems including drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

  • Co-ordinate monthly medical incapacity meetings with employees and the medical department.

  • Assist with loans for medical emergencies. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of various employee assistance programs.


Employee Relations:



  • Assist the Human Resources Manager with implementing and making recommendations on improvements to Employee Relations strategies.

  • Assist the Human Resources Manager with the development of HR policies affecting employee relations.

  • Ensure that employee relations problems are solved. Assist with the implementation of programs to include employee participation eg, green areas meetings, newsletters, “State of the Nation”, briefings, suggestion scheme, employee opinion survey, monthly management/shop steward meetings to ensure participation.

  • Implement program to ensure that there are equal opportunities for all employees.


Requirements:



  • National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources (essential)

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience gained in a similar position

  • 3 years\' generalist experience gained in a manufacturing environment

  • Computer literacy essential - knowledge of SAP HR module

  • Demonstrated competency to conduct conciliation proceedings at CCMA/DRC and knowledge of arbitration proceedings at CCMA/DRC (essential)
