Farm/technical Manager (citrus Farm)

Minimum requirements:

5+ years’ experience in a similar role in the citrus industry – non-negotiable

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Related qualification advantageous
  • AVCASA and BASOS certification advantageous
  • Technically strong e.g., irrigation scheduling, spray calibration etc.
  • Mechanical knowledge
  • Preventative maintenance orientated
  • Knowledge on general agricultural practices (H&S, SIZA, GlobalG.A.P)
  • Computer literate
  • Strong admin skills
  • Strong motivational & leadership skills relating to a big workforce
  • Deadline driven
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work overtime
  • The potential candidate must possess a moderate level of fitness and be in good health
  • Ability to speak Xhosa advantageous
Duties & Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Senior Farm Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the co-ordination, execution, and follow-up of the following:

COMPLIANCE

  • SIZA (Social and Environmental)
  • A.P
  • Health & Safety
  • Co-ordination of internal/external training
  • PPECB, DAFF orchard inspections
  • Environmental and Social Governance
  • Co-ordination of all audits (SIZA, GlobalG.A.P etc.)
TECHNICAL

Irrigation & Chemical applications

  • Automation of irrigation systems
  • Chemical applications & spray instructions
  • Fertilizer applications
Crop manipulation

  • Pruning
  • Girdling
  • Foliar feeds
  • Gibb applications
Trial studies

  • Testing and analysis of new products
  • Data capturing
  • Monthly analysis & reporting
Farm maintenance

  • Calibration of spray machines
  • General knowledge of maintenance of farm vehicles and equipment
  • Calibration and use of GPS precision spreading.
Production

  • Work in conjunction with Managers and supervisors to ensure the following:
  • Co-ordination of picking teams
  • General supervision of farm employees
  • Ensure effective communication, co-ordination, and planning during picking season
  • Motivate and improve productivity of employees
  • Cost management
